The series: Sacred Matters: Integrating Spirituality into Mental Health Care and Mental Health Care into Faith Communities, will be led by Dr. Ken Pargament, professor at Bowling Green University, author of the book “Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy: Understanding and Addressing the Sacred” and recently named one of the 50 most influential living psychologists in the world. The goal of this free 4-workshop series is to address stereotypes and misconceptions mental health professionals and pastoral counselors/clergy have of each other and how to correct them. The workshop hosted by Mental Health Partners will take place on May 17, 2018 from 9:30am-Noon at the Ryan Wellness Center (1000 Alpine Ave. Boulder, CO 80304). It is designed to help practitioners and educators develop a framework for understanding and addressing spirituality in psychotherapy, and will incorporate PowerPoint, clinical stories, empirical research findings and discussion. Two separate presentations will be featured in this workshop. The first one, “Why Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy Makes Perfectly Good Sense: An Evidence-Based Rationale” will draw on a growing body of research that suggests attending to the spiritual dimension of peoples’ lives should be a regular part of psychotherapy. The second one, “How to Address Spiritual Issues in Psychotherapy,” will introduce the audience to ways to understand spirituality, engage clients in dialogue about spiritual matters, and help clients access their spiritual resources to facilitate health and well-being.
The workshop series kicks off on May 16, 2018 at First Presbyterian Boulder from 7:00-9:00pm with a focus on “Sacred Matters: Spirituality as a Vital Resource for Resilience, Health, and Well-Being.” The third workshop in the series will be May 17, 2018 from 1:30 -4:00pm at Har HaShem in Boulder and discuss “Shaken to the Core: Helping People through times of Spiritual Struggle” and “Blowing on Sacred Embers: Helping People Access their Spiritual Resources.” The workshop series wraps up Friday May 18, 2018 from 10:00 am-noon with a presentation on “Sacred Moments: Cultivating a Source of Powerful Transformation and Growth” at Naropa University (Naropa Nalanda Events Center, 6287 Arapahoe Ave, Boulder.)
